In this blog post I chose to interview college football player Jayy Hill in his last year of eligibility. I chose Jay because of his great knowledge of the game of football and his extensive knowledge of the NFL Draft each year. Now that he’s eligible to be a part of the team, I asked him a few questions about his past and how a player like him trains and positions himself.
In this interview I started asking general questions about his position and what he feels like he needs to get better at to have a shot at next year’s upcoming draft, and he gave a great answer. He said he focused on a multitude of fundamental things such as his speed and agility. Being a lineman, most people don’t assume that you need to be fast and agile throughout the playing process. He harps on being strong and being able to move efficiently to do his job. Being a bigger guy at 6’6″ and 310 pounds, he needs these things to stand out during his pro day and combine performances, two things that we talked about earlier in these blogs.
The second question I asked him is a question I found very interesting, and that’s being, “What did college teach him that will put him in the right place approaching the draft?” He told us building relationships and learning football IQ were huge for him, and this topic is another thing we talked about in this blog. Being a smart football player can take you further than being a physical force a lot of the time, and he knows this going into the draft.
We pivot to our final few questions, where I ask what separates him from the other linemen in this class. He answers quickly and reiterates that his mindset and how he approaches the game is his best. When going into the season or combine training, knowing that you’re doing what it takes to compete at a high level is very helpful for him. Overall I feel this was a great interview with Jay, and I’m really excited for what he gives us next time!
